After my amazing session at Spirit Mountain I wondered what other Indian Casinos were around. I knew of several up in the Seattle area, but that was a 4 hour drive. Low and behold, I discovered the ilani Casino Resort had opened up in Ridgefield, WA, less than a month before. Best of all, it was a mere 35 minute drive away. Well, this was a deal too good to pass up. And with Mrs. Poorman still away, I took the opportunity and made a Monday evening jaunt to ilani to check out the place and partake of a little gambling entertainment.
I followed my cautious approach, letting shooters qualify themselves by making a point before I bet on them. The younger guy to my left had a similar conservative approach to the game as I did, reducing or calling down bets after a few rolls by the shooter. He also had a nice, gentle controlled roll. I even complimented him on it. He thanked me and said he’s been watching a lot of YouTube videos.
The fellow to my right had an interesting hedging strategy. He would make a Don’t Pass bet, then place the inside numbers. I’m intrigued by this strategy and will practice it at Poorman’s Casino to get the hang of it.
Overall the shooters had some nice rolls. I was ahead after my first bet. No one had a monster roll to really press a lot of bets with. After 2 hours I left with an extra $81 in my pocket.
After-action review: Whenever you come away a winner it makes for a fun evening. The dealers and other players all were pleasant to play with. I can’t fault my strategy and was happy with my play. With the closeness of the casino I hope I can make regular visits to increase my confidence and perhaps expand to other games. Roulette looks like a possibility.
The ilani itself was a pleasant place. Bright and not too smoky. My only complaint is they don’t have soda machines anywhere in the casino, forcing players to order their drinks form cocktail waitresses. That wouldn’t be so bad except they weren’t too plentiful and not particularly fast.
